Embracing Faith Without Embarrassment
As we continue our message series, "Unembarrassed of Jesus," today, I want to talk about the sermon titled, "Care for Jesus." Reflecting on Luke 22:54-62, we are reminded of Peter’s denial and how his embarrassment of Jesus led him to deny knowing Him. This story resonates with many believers because, often, before denial comes embarrassment.
Don't Be Embarrassed of Jesus
It's essential to love and stand by Jesus even when it's challenging. Peter's reputation was at stake, and he wilted under pressure. Similarly, we might find ourselves at crossroads where our faith is challenged. It's crucial not to be embarrassed or passive about Jesus. As I emphasize in today's message,
"Don't be embarrassed of Jesus. Care for Jesus."
Together, let’s proclaim that with conviction and loud voices.
The Impact of the Church
When the body of Christ isn’t fulfilling its purpose, it can damage His cause. Yet, let’s remember that there’s nothing wrong with Jesus Himself. The church has undoubtedly been responsible for both good and bad actions over the centuries. But it has also accomplished incredible deeds—establishing hospitals, schools, and orphanages, demonstrating unparalleled generosity. Freely we have received; so freely we should give, as the Bible teaches us.
Embarrassment and Passive Denial
Often, our passive denial or embarrassment of Jesus manifests differently. It could be in the way we speak or act around different people. Remember, the best sermon we will ever preach is how we live our lives. The story of Peter and other biblical figures like Judas shows us different outcomes of denial. Importantly, Peter’s humility led to his redemption and significant role in preaching the gospel.
Syncretism and Outright Denial
Syncretism—merging cultural changes with the gospel—weakens the church. Though important to preach in the language of the people, the gospel itself must remain unaltered. Outright denial, which is a step further than embarrassment, can lead to atheism or agnosticism. It’s crucial to embrace the gospel thoroughly and stand firm in faith, regardless of societal pressures.
Power and Grace Through Faith
The power of God and the Holy Spirit's presence are crucial. A church service devoid of this power is merely a weak display of religion. God can transform anyone’s life at any moment. The Holy Spirit’s power is as potent today as it was in the past. Our embarrassment, passive denial, or outright rejection can harm the body of Christ, leading to spiritual embalming rather than anointing.
Conclusion
Pathway Church, let’s follow and love Jesus with all our hearts. Let’s bring worship into the house, extend grace to others, and live lives that reflect our unembarrassed faith in Jesus. Remember, there is nothing we have that is better than Jesus. Our mission is to kindlilly care for His body—the church—with devotion and authenticity. Give God everything you have; He will bless and anoint your life profoundly.
Join me in this journey of unabashed faith and devotion. Let's be proud to care for Jesus, today and always.
