A Patch Bridges Jerusalem & Mobile Police Forces

A Patch Bridges Jerusalem & Mobile Police Forces

FROM USA to ISRAEL to USA

The patch reads, “Not by might nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord of Hosts.”

I was in Jerusalem talking with Israeli Special Patrol Unit (YASAM) officers. They’d be the equivalent of our SWAT in the US. It was a great conversation.

Before I left from the US, City of Mobile police officer Trey Powell asked me to try to get an Israeli police patch for him. I bought him a hat from a shop…and kept moving with a full schedule and kind of gave up on the idea that I would get a patch.

But, there in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City, we stopped and talked with Israel police and IDF officers while we were waiting to meet up with some friends and Omran asked me if I’d like to have his patch. Wow. Special. A real honor to receive.

YASAM is a tactical special operations branch of the Israeli police force. It functions primarily as a riot police and crowd control unit, but also handles rapid response to high-risk incidents, counter-terrorism support, public order maintenance during disturbances, high-risk arrests, and security patrols in sensitive areas like Jerusalem and Judea/Samaria.

PATCH DETAILS

  • Central emblem — A winged lion holding a sword, symbolizing strength and readiness (common in Israeli security insignia).

  • Text — “YASAM” prominently in the middle, “ISRAEL POLICE” at the bottom, and Hebrew text around the edge.

  • “YASAM JERUSALEM” is specific to the Jerusalem district subunit, which is particularly active due to the city’s complex security challenges.

Bottom line, these officers are elite…the best of the best.

—It was an honor to come home and give this treasured gift to Trey Powell, one of our City of Mobile police officers who attends Pathway Church - Airport Campus. Each week, he serves at Airport campus on the security team. When i come in to preach, hes the first one to receive me.

Pathway Church is full of first responders. They’re the best kind of people. Generous, dedicated, sacrificial.

They put themselves on the line to keep our community safe. I’m grateful for them and their families.

—God bless officers like Trey and Omran who serve to keep both Mobile and Jerusalem safe.
